Due to a recent successful grant application through the EHDC’s “Councillor Community Grant”, we are now equipped with a new Seine net to carryout Stock Evaluations of our waters.
Petersfield & District Angling Club would like to thank the EHDC, Cllr Louise Bevan, Cllr John Hutchinson, Cllr Robert Mocatta, Cllr Phil Shaw, and Cllr David Podger, their pledges will enable the PDAC Development Programme to continue offering free angling experiences to the local community and for our members to enjoy quality fishing.
Seine netting is very important tool in the management of fisheries, this provides vital information allowing us to accurately pin point the density in which a fishery is stocked. It also gives us an opportunity to look at the general health and well-being of the fish. Regular netting management can also implement practices such as protecting habitat, improving water quality, enforcing regulations to prevent overfishing and maintain ecological balance to ensure a high standard of fishing with quality & healthy fish.
Our new 120mx2m net has already been put to use, with an evaluation at Nyewood Ponds, a venue that we have now established, requires an introduction of a fresh healthy stock.
We can also reveal, Petersfield & District Angling Club have also been assisting EHDC and Buriton Parish Council with the relocation of 60 Carp from a local pond. Once again, our new net was put to good use, when club officials & volunteers had successfully conducted a netting and transported the fish safely to their new home at Nyewood Ponds.
The Councillor Community Grant has now given us a lifeline to provide quality angling to the local community, we wish to offer our thanks and gratitude to the Councillors and all those involved.
Steve Chapman
PDAC Chairman.
