Date:15/07/2024 Peg number:10 Weather: on /off rain. Heavy at times and wind picking up. (glad I bought a larger new umbrella)
Bait: Worm and maggot with some white bread flakes, groundbait added strawberry angel delight, Pro liver 10mm soft boilies, Sweetcorn, Red worms.
Set Up:
Rod 1: Open feeder / safe heli rig loaded with ground bait, 8lb line size 14 hook pre tied.
Rod 2:Maggot feeder, 8lb line size 14 pre tied hook.
Time: 05.45
Open feeder with a mix of maggot and worm ground bait. fished far edge of lily pads, float rod same area, lob worm.
Nothing much happening after an hour, cast just short of lily pads, about halfway along.
maggot feeder, lots of action with small rudd, one or two small perch under 1/2 lb
Time: 07.45
Replaced hooks with size 12 guru QM1 , tied myself with 30mm hair bait pro liver boilie.
first take 07.45 ripping bite, Bream just over 7lb, rebaited, bites are pulling the rod around.
Biggest change was swapping over hooks to Guru Qm1 size 12. excellent hook and liver boilies.
Swapped all baits to liver. Still filling feeder with ground bait, adding two small balls in swim as well, bites are becoming more savage , takes are dragging the rod around hard
Time: 08.10
Take on rod 1 by the lillies, 12lb bream, didn't have time to rebait, rod 2 take pulled rod around 12 lb, largest bream I have ever caught, (PB) for approx 15minutes rod 1 nearly pulled off the rests, 13lb bream.
Time: 08.30
Rebaited rod one with liver boilie wind picking up again, all quite.
added couple more small balls of ground bait. Sat back and had a cup of tea.
Time: 09.14
Wind dropped rain started again, bite on rod 1 by lillies , a 1 lb Rudd not sure how it got the 10mm in its mouth, if your'e hungry anything goes.
Time: 10.00
Brightened up, massive take on rod 2, 9lb bream then rod 1 went off and this was a 7lb bream, not sure who said bream fight like a dinner plate, these two where jumping out of the water to get away, rebaited rod 2 with 15mm boilie and this produced a small 10 pound carp.
Time: 12.00
Takes now on and off, but a good day, heli rig instead of lead at the end placed an open cage feeder, shorten the hook length to about 8" this appears to work better as the hook bait is slightly away from the feeder, does require a short length of tube to kick the hook link away from the feeder, cuts back tangles (learned that the hard way)
Not sure if the angel delight worked but it does add colour and smells wonderful.
peg 16, fish between the lillies on the left side, the carp are going to and fro along the small open water area.
Until next time ...tight lines.
